Fire Protection Engineering - Tenure/Tenure-Track Faculty

The Department of Fire Protection Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications at all levels for a tenure/tenure-track faculty position beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year. Required qualifications include: an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field; vision and passion for growing our Ph.D. program; a demonstrated record of scholarly research; a strong commitment to teaching; and excellent communication skills.

The position is in the general area of Fire Protection Engineering and the primary areas of specialty interest include computational modeling; building design; detection; advanced suppression and modeling of suppression; fire investigation; forensic analysis; fire protection systems; structural design for fire; and combustion. Candidates in other areas will be considered.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses and advising M.S. theses and Ph.D. dissertations in traditional areas of fire protection engineering. The candidate will be expected to develop and sustain externally funded research programs that are accompanied by scholarly activities.
